Compensation Guide

What’s My Claim Worth - How Does it Work?

The amount of compensation (also known as damages) that you will receive varies considerably and is dictated by the seriousness of the injury and your individual circumstances.

There are two types of damages: ‘General Damages’, which will include compensation for your injuries, and consists of the pain and suffering that you have endured and the effects of the injuries on your lifestyle (also known as loss of amenity).

To help us value your claim, we obtain specialist reports which detail the injuries that you have suffered and their effects on your day to day living as well as the impact on, for example, your employment. We take in to account when valuing your claim the effects of the injuries to date as well as the impact that they will have on you in the future.

We also obtain compensation for any financial losses, which you have suffered due to your injuries. These are known as ‘Special Damages’. Again, the items that are recoverable will depend on the individual’s circumstances and the list of such items is quite lengthy. Common examples include lost earnings, out of pocket expenses for medication and travel etc, care and assistance provided by friends and family whilst you may be recovering from your injuries etc.

*Please Note: The figures produced by the Compensation Calculator are taken from the JSB's Guidelines for the Assessment of General Damages in Personal Injury Cases (8th edition) and are only an indication of what is commonly awarded for the type and severity of injury selected. As discussed above, there are many different variables that affect the level of compensation and each claim is valued on its own unique facts. To find out more Call US NOW on 0800 008 7606.
